4 Free Alternatives to Popular Streaming Platforms to Help You Save Money
I was checking my bank statement for February 2025, and here is what shocked me: I spent 149 bucks on streaming subscriptions like Netflix, Prime, and Max. I donโt even use most of them, and I was just wasting money.
The thrifty Hispanic in me said: ยกAhorra este dinero, tonto! (save this money, you fool!)
That was the time I went out to hunt for the best free streaming services that would save me from breaking the bank while providing me with Friday night entertainment. To my luck, I found some good ones, and I have been using them for quite a while now. They have a huge library of content ranging from TV shows, movies, and some originals too.
Do you want to know more about them? Letโs hop in and I will walk you through them in detail.
Tubi โ The Best One So Far
Why has Tubi TV topped my list? With over 275,000 titles spanning various genres and eras, it is one of the largest streaming services that comes at no cost.
You heard it right, it is Free!
Youโll find titles ranging from popular movies to TV shows, and that too without feeling cheap โ it has one of the finest user interfaces among these free streaming services. One of the many likable things about Tubi is that they support independent filmmakers, so you can expect to see some great, lesser-known titles.
However, there are some problems I faced with Tubi. They support themselves through advertisements, and you might see ads here and there. There is no ad-free option either, but that is pretty-much it for the problems.
All in all, the streaming experience has been seamless mainly because of the platform’s stability, and my high-speed Spectrum Internet. I have been using this service for a couple of years now, because it offers top-notch customer service and Spectrum Internet prices are quite affordable in my idea!
Pluto TV โ Best for Live TV
If you like watching TV the old way (cable TV), this platform can be a great choice for you.
You can watch the live TV just as you used to do on your cable TV. The channels are well-organized and you can move across them by switching horizontally. Since it is owned by Viacom, you will be able to watch channels like MTV, TV Land, VH1, and more. CNN and Fox Sports are available too but they only publish curated clips.
In case you are looking to replace your subscription-based platform, Pluto TV does offer on-demand movies and TV shows. It offers a balance of both worlds.
And oh! Su experiencia con la aplicaciรณn es fantรกstica (their app experience is fantastic) โ no problems of any sort navigating through the content.
Pluto TV doesnโt require you to sign up and create an account, but if you do, you can add your content preferences, and continue watching the same content on any device.
If you need to watch live TV, it is a good service that you canโt go wrong with.
The Roku Channel โ Best for Original Content
It is a US-based platform that offers everything that most of these platforms in my list offer, along with original content. It is famous for publishing content created by independent creators.
It offers live TV shows, and you will be able to watch premium channels. As of recent statistics, 80,000 free movies and TV shows are available to stream for free on the Roku channel. Though it is subjective, I donโt like most of the titles. However, their original publishing is something to look after.
One of the best things I like about Roku is that I can watch the early episodes of the greatest shows like Game of Thrones. You canโt really complain about what the Roku channel offers, but it is there to try and it is free.
Amazon Freevee โ Best for Watching Movies
It is not the ideal of all, but I like the fact it is there. Again, you donโt need to gastar un centavo (spend a dime) to watch a comparatively modest content library of over 15,000 movies and TV shows.
I havenโt used this service much but you can find a mix of popular shows and original programming as well. As for the platform, it used to be a stand-alone app, but now, it has been integrated into the Amazon Prime app under Freevee TV bar.
When I was using it, I liked the following shows the most: The Good Wife, Everybody Hates Chris, and Weeds. They are still available and you can stream them.
Some examples of these great plataformas de transmisiรณn gratuitas (free streaming platforms) are proof that you donโt need to burn a hole in your pocket to watch good content. So, unsubscribe to those dormant subscriptions and check out some of these streaming platforms to get your fill of some great TV shows and movies.
